For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor a lifetime. Weeping may spend the night but there is joy in the morning.
Psalms 30:5 (CSB)
REFLECTION
So many times we hold onto hurt. We allow it to eat away at us and consume every fiber and every ounce of our mind, body, and soul. At that time in our life the pain may seem so unbearable; like it might last a lifetime. But it doesn’t. There will always be joy somewhere in the end.
POINTS TO PONDER
We all have a tendency to hold onto things, especially hurt. Hurt is the baggage that most of us just cannot seem to drop. We sometimes let a hurt stay and fester in our heart so long that that hurt becomes a part of us. We may hold onto this hurt because we are in fear of letting it go and allowing the same type of hurt in to hurt us all over again. We spend too much energy crying over how others have hurt us or how situations have gotten out of control. We waste our energy, our time, and our tears because we allow that hurt to dictate our lives.
But we need to learn how to “let go and let God.” We need to learn how to not let hurt live in our hearts and overwhelm us to the point where we just cannot function. We need to learn how to forgive. But most importantly we need to learn how to move on. If we always have one foot in the past, we will never be able to take more than one step towards the future. We need both of our feet to be planted solidly together so that we can move forward; onto the greater things that God has planned for us in our lives.
So I challenge each of you this week to work on letting go of at least one hurt. Confront your feelings head on, tackle the emotional baggage that has been hanging onto you for so long, and then “let go and let God.” Lean onto God to help you take that pain away. Trust in Him that in due time He will heal all wounds that you have accumulated because of this hurt.
PRAYER
Father God,
Help me to be stronger. Help me to process through my hurt so that it doesn’t consume me and take over my life. Help me to be the person that truly forgives and forgets. Help me to not let my hurt feelings continuously take over my life. Help me to forgive as you have forgiven me. I know that life cannot be all positive Lord, so please help me to learn how to cope, process, and heal through all of life’s pain.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Shynea I LOVE this article. I think more times than I care to admit, I work on getting MYSELF “right” and bettering my spirit, but I forget about the focus of my heart and actually cleansing it of the pain others have caused me so that I can truly forgive them and move past it. That’s tough, especially when a person is so used to just ignoring it… God bless you for your honesty!
